Thursday Thirteen #13

Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen Things That Make Me Cry
It's the Golden Birthday of my Thursday Thirteens!

Warning: Star Trek geek reference coming up. If you can't handle it, skip the following paragraphs and move on to #1.

I've always thought I might be a Vulcan. I don't have pointy ears, but I do have bushy eyebrows. They don't sweep upward, but I could make them do so if I really wanted.

Anyway, if you ever watched Star Trek, you know that Vulcans do not express emotion. True ST fans, though, know that this is because of a very structured discipline of meditation. (Did I just out myself as a ST fan? Well, I guess I am married to a geek. And I'm only a little bit of a fan. I'd never dress up and go to a convention or anything like that.) Their natural tendency is to be so extrememly emotional that it is potentially very dangerous to themselves and those around them. At least that's the way I understand it.

I also do not express my emotions openly, though I feel things deeply. There was a time when you would never catch a tear escaping my eye. As I have gotten older, however, I have developed ocular incontinence. Sometimes, no matter how hard I bite my tongue or try to think of things other than that which is making me cry, I cannot stop it. This embarrasses me to no end, although my Sweet Geek assures me that it shouldn't.

Guess I should have done better at those meditation exercises. I don't know if the world is ready for the force of all my tears. Here are a few of the things that tend to launch a flood.

1. TV commercials - even the ones that aren't sad or sappy.

2. Movies - again, even the ones that aren't sad or sappy. I actually started to tear up slightly watching Click the other night. I know, it's bad. I think I might need an intervention or something.

3. TV shows - yet again, even the ones that aren't sad or sappy.

4. Other people crying. This one gets me every single time.

5. People dancing.

6. Singers singing.

7. Strong emotion. Angry? Holding back tears. Really happy? Biting my tongue to stop from crying. Sad? Surprisingly this is about the only thing that doesn't make me cry.

8. People's testimonies of how they became Christians.

9. Testimonies of God's healing power.

10. Thinking about things I really want, like that house we're supposed to be building.

11. Certain songs on the radio. Lately, What If by Nicole Nordeman has been the one that gets me.

12. Stubbing my toe.

13. Onions. I'm really really bad with onions.

I didn't think it was possible to find someone more tear-prone than me. Onions, I get. Testimonies, I get. But commercials. I don't get that.

Ocular incontinence. Hah! That's good!

Commercials tend to get to me too, especially the Folger's House Christmas ones. I know, I'm a sap!!

Ocular incontinence? That's a great phrase!

I'm not prone to crying, but when I do it's hard to snap out of it. I think I cry more now over things bothering my boys. I, too, have Vulcan eyebrows. ;)

I hate crying because I always get a headache which usually means I have a constant headache. ;)

I think the first commercial to make me cry was the one about littering and the tear slowly leaking out of the American Indian's eye.

Have a Happy!

I always want to cry when I see other people crying too

But I don't understand crying at commercials, TV shows or movies that are not even sad..... but that's just me

About two years ago I became a crier. Up until then I was as stoic s could be....now I just can't seem to stop the flow. I guess it is nice to know that I am not alone!

I knew when I was pregnant because everything on TV made me cry. Especially if there was a baby.

Now, it's more laughter that makes me cry and very sad situations. Oh, and onions.

I cry sooo much... specially happy sappy stuff. As for real life, the only thing that makes me cry in my life is when I am really, really mad. I mean, even past the "wow, BG got quiet!" mad. Thankfully, I don't think you've ever seen me that angry. And that's a good thing.
