“When anybody asks, 'What are you writing about now?' if I try to reply, the book-in-the-works sounds so idiotic to me that I think, 'Why am I trying to write that puerile junk?' So now I give up; if I could talk about it, I wouldn't have to write it."

Why Dialup Isn't Working For Me Quite Yet

Saturday, November 24, 2007

The Geek has the computer which will be used as a dial-up server which will eventually let me get online at home, but now we're waiting on the modem we need to make it all work. UPS should be delivering it by Tuesday or so. Now I just have to find the cable that attaches the camera to my laptop so I can post pictures once we do have dial-up working.

Whew. Well, in the meantime, I'm still checking in about once a week, but I'm SO looking forward to every day. Once a week just doesn't cut it.

Why Dialup Works For Me

Friday, November 16, 2007

I have been without internet access for the past two and a half weeks. Well, except for at work, but since I'm really not supposed to get online for personal stuff at work (though I might just check my email now and then, but don't tell, okay?) I have been blog-less and comic-less and everything else important on the web-less for over two weeks. My only other respite from my internet-deprived world has been Friday night dinner at the local Embers which happens to have Wi-Fi. But when you've been without for two weeks, one hour of internet doesn't really cut it.

But I have hope at last! The Geek brought home a nifty little PC that can be used as a dial-up server connected to our wireless network which should allow me to get online. And if I ask real nice like, he might even set it up this weekend! I can't wait!

By the way, for those of you who actually know my phone number, if you're trying to call me from this point on and can't get through, I'm probably online. Dial-up, remember it? It's that thing your parents had once upon a time that got you online but took over your telephone and moved really really slow. But you know what? Dialup means that I'm online, and it means that I'm living in the country, and that makes it okay with me.

So if you need to find me, that's probably where I'll be. Online for the next two weeks straight to make up for the past two weeks of web deprivation...and the past six months of blog deprivation.

I Really Am Back! Honest!

Friday, November 09, 2007

We just don't have internet running yet at home. We're at a restaurant with free Wi-Fi tonight, so I'm checking in quick. Hoping to have internet at home in the next few days though. There will be pictures of the new house, horror stories of living without water or heat, NaNoWriMo word counts, and more coming soon! Really!

And big huge thanks to those of you who welcomed me back. I can't wait to have internet for long enough to visit you and catch up!

I'm Back!!

Thursday, November 01, 2007

The following post was written 2 days ago. I intended to post it from our new town yesterday, but the restaurant that used to have internet access doesn't have it anymore. So I don't have internet for a while.

I was going to have a new website design too, but it's not cooperating and I don't even have time to think, much less fight with a new design.

It may be a few days before I can really start blogging again, but I will be doing so soon.

It's been six months since I last posted here.

Six months!

And what a half-year it has been. Here is a quick top 10 of things that happened while I was away.

10. My blog reached 10,000 hits, and it's quickly heading toward 11,000. While my numbers went down a bit after I went on a blogging sabbatical (blogatical? sablogical?), I still had at least 1 hit each day. Not sure who that was, but "thank you" to that dedicated reader who checked in despite my long absence. And funnier yet is that my counts started going up, right about the time we reached what could be called "late October". Thanks for coming back!

9. I reached my 2 year blog anniversary (or blogiversary if you prefer). Two years. Actually, that was back in June, so it's quite a bit past 2 years now. Wait...does it still count as over 2 years if you haven't actually been blogging for the past 6 months?

8. We took all 5 cats to stay with my in-laws while we tried to sell our house. That was six months ago. The house was officially on the market about 2 months ago and we haven't had a single looker yet. (Harumphh.)

7. We learned you can live without a lot of the stuff you don't think you can live without. We emptied house of any and all extraneous stuff in order to eliminate clutter while trying to sell the house. Most of our stuff has been in storage for the past few months, and about half of our stuff has been in storage for the past 2 years.

6. I have become a cleaning fiend. It's exhausting, I tell you. And I still don't think I'm doing that good of a job. How do those women do it? You know, the ones who have 2.5 kids, work full time, go to school part time, are always in perfect hair and makeup, and still have a perfectly spotless house. I know they exist. I've seen them. I just don't get it.

5. Speaking of remarkable women, Madeliene L'Engle died in September. She is such an amazing writer and thinker, and it makes me sad that she will not be contributing new books and thoughts to the world anymore. On the other hand, she was a dedicated Christian who loved Jesus with all her heart so she is with him in her eternal home now.

4. On a lighter note, I was attacked by a ravenous beast about a month ago. (Interpretation: I was bitten by a mouse.) I was sleeping soundly at about 6:00 a.m. and woke up to sound of scratching near my head. I couldn't quite wake up enough to figure out what the noise was...until the little beast bit the tip of my thumb. You can bet I've never gotten out of bed as fast as I did that morning!

3. I've read lots and lots of books. I'd make a list, but eh...I don't really want to. The most recent, however, were research for NaNoWriMo. It's coming up fast!

2. My dear friend Blond Girl has been in town for the past 4 months! She moved to Another State last year and has been back for training at a new job. Of course, she misses her husband and daughter like crazy! But it's been fun to have her here again for chick chats and shopping extravaganzas! (IKEA baby!)

1. I always like to save the best for last. Yes, we finally built our home in the country! Well, I guess we didn't build it so much as our builder and his men did. But we have a house and we're moving in today!!! Which is why I'm here, of course, since my promise was to come back as soon as we moved. Okay, technically, we're not moving until Saturday, but I also promised I would be back in late October, and this is as late in October as it gets, so I figured I better not wait anymore or I might lose the 5 of you who have been checking in on me.

It's good to be back! There is much to be said...come back for more later.
